President's Message

Welcome to the 2010 Save on Foods Nanaimo Dragon Boat Festival. This year we want to dedicate the festival in memory of our first president, Alex Marriott. Alex passed away suddenly and it is our duty, in memory of him, to have as much fun as we can this year. As Alex was fond of saying “it will be HUGE”. The vision of the festival founders was to raise money to purchase equipment that would help in diagnosing breast cancer. Every year the entire net proceeds of the festival are donated locally, to provide for the care and comfort of those battling this terrible disease.

We are blessed with a beautiful venue, a beautiful city, the on water support of Go Row and Paddle, a multitude of dedicated volunteers and last but not least, our title sponsor Save on Foods.

What really makes the festival special though is you - the paddler - the love, the laughter, the smiles. Without you there would be no festival, there would be no donation to such a great cause.

We, the Nanaimo Dragon Boat Society, would like to thank you for being there.
